Planned improvements 

The NSW Government has announced an in principle agreement with owner/operator of the M2, Hills M2, for a $550 million upgrade of the M2. The upgrade will relieve existing congestion points and prepare for the growth predicted for the north-west over the next 25 years and provide bus priority access.

Planned improvements include:

  • An additional eastbound lane from Pennant Hills Road through the M2 Tunnel to Lane Cove Road.
  • An additional eastbound lane between Windsor Road and Pennant Hills Road.
  • A new eastbound on ramp at Christie Road.
  • A new westbound off ramp at Herring Road.
  • New west facing on and off ramps at Windsor Road
  • Widened westbound lanes from Lane Cove Road to Beecroft Road to reinstate the 100km/hr speed limit
  • An additional lane westbound from Beecroft Road to Pennant Hills Road.

Where are we now?

Environmental Assessment

The Environmental Assessment for the M2 upgrade is on public exhibition until Monday 21 June 2010.

Shopping centre displays will be held at:

  • Carlingford Court at Carlingford on Saturday 29 May from 10am to 2pm
  • Macquarie Centre at North Ryde on Tuesday 1 June from 10am to 2pm
  • Winston Hills Mall at Winston Hills on Thursday 3 June from 4pm to 8pm

Community information sessions will be held at:

  • Epping Boys High School, Eastwood on Wednesday 2 June from 5pm to 8pm
  • Stamford Hall, Balcombe Heights Estate on Saturday 5 June from 10am to 2pm
  • School of Arts Community Centre, North Ryde on Thursday 10 June from 5pm to 8pm

You are invited to review the environmental assessment and make a written submission to the Department of Planning by close of business on Monday 21 June 2010.

The environmental assessment documents can be viewed or downloaded here.

  • If planning approval is received, construction could commence in 2010.
  • It is predicted that the project would take two years to complete.
