Many RTA projects encompass significant engineering and construction feats, involve the labour and effort of thousands of individuals and the movement of vast quantities of building materials and spoilage. The Eastern Distributor Project was no exception.

Some facts about the Eastern Distributor are tabled below.

Moving a mountain

Road header machines were used to excavate the tunnels in the Eastern Distributor project. Rock breakers, excavators, dozers, pile drivers, cranes and graders and spoil removal trucks were also used.

Great heights

The Eastern Distributor project has won prestigious engineering excellence awards at the State and national levels – the Bradfield Award and the Sir William Hudson Award.

How low can you go?

Heading down: the Eastern Distributor takes cars to 30 metres below ground.

The deepest point of the Eastern Distributor is 30 metres below Taylor Square.

Bringing in the troops

The construction workforce included construction management personnel, tradespersons, skilled and unskilled labourers. In total 1000 jobs were created.
